My earliest memories are of cooking.  Everything about it fascinated me! The people who cooked were fascinating-Daddy cooked breakfast with a pot of Maxwell House percolating on the counter.  Mama used a huge black iron skillet to start dinner every night.  We lived on a farm in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in upstate SC, and there was always plenty of food.  It was hard work to get it to the table and we were proud to eat what we had grown, harvested, and preserved.  My father’s parents lived across the corn field and his mother always started dinner by making a pie.  My Daddy and Mama are in their 90’s and I love to share food with them.  I still live less than 20 miles from where I grew up.

I spent my middle years working in several American Corporations.  I never lost my desire to cook or my touch.   I loved to cook for my sons, Peter and Adam, and they have fond memories of home cooking.  But time was the issue.

Finally, I have the luxury of time!!  Today, if I have a moment to relax, I am likely to spend it thinking about food or preparing food.  Everything about it still fascinates me, and it’s still the people who draw me in.  My husband is an enthusiastic food taster and my grandson who is 14 loves to help me in the kitchen when he stays with us.

Once Katie married Peter and became my daughter-in-law, and I learned about her love for all things food, I thought EUREKA, let’s start a blog!  We’ve had a lot of fun putting this initial blog together and hope you will enjoy it.  Please leave us comments and tips.  We’d love to hear from you!!

I am mom to Teddy & Hazel , wife to Peter, pet mom to our kitties Nellie, Bilbo, and Lola, and full time manager at a busy natural grocery store. Life is good…. and very busy! We live in the mountains of western North Carolina, though I grew up in northeast Florida (which is pretty much Georgia, if you’re familiar with the area!)

In my spare time, I give free rein to my creative impulses! I’ve lately taken several courses on upholstery, and I reupholstered a wing back chair. I am an avid knitter. I like to sew, and though my skills are somewhat rudimentary, I can usually scrape together some respectable Halloween costumes. And of course, I love to experiment in the kitchen!

My culinary interests are broad. I absolutely love The Great British Baking Show, so lately my influences have been very British. I also like to sneak in slang words like “scrummy” and “cheeky.” I am both excited and daunted by French cuisine, and I hope to tackle some of the classics during the course of this blog. And then there’s Indian, Korean, Japanese… the possibilities are endless.

I am excited to share this journey with you as Mary and I learn the in’s and outs of blogging, hone our cooking skills, and perfect our photography! Happy eating!
